Michael Gass, Ph.D.
UNH Outdoor Education Coordinator

Mike has been the Coordinator of the Outdoor Education Program in the Department of Kinesiology at the University of New Hampshire for the past 21 years. The undergraduate, masters, and doctoral programs at UNH are recognized as some of the leading educational programs in outdoor education and experiential programming in the field. He also is one of the creators and principals of UNH's Browne Center, a program development and research center for experiential learning serving over 9,000 clients a year. Mike's research and writings have appeared in numerous journals and several books for over 20 years. He has presented over 150 professional workshops on adventure and other forms of experiential programming in Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, and North America. For the Association for Experiential Education, Mike has served in roles as Board President, Professional Group Chair, Accreditation Council Chair, Regional Council Chair, Journal Guest Editor, Conference Workshop Chair, Regional Conference Convener. He serves as a licensed marriage and family therapist and has been an EMT for the last 18 years. He current coordinates major efforts with the New Hampshire Department of Education to promote, develop, and evaluate service learning, character education, and outdoor education throughout schools in the State. His most recent community service roles have been as a soccer coach, Sunday school teacher, and head dishwasher at the Moharimet Elementary School pancake breakfast.
